Horizon T101 Treadmill – A Good Buy For You?

Horizon T101 Treadmill Review

Horizon T101 Treadmill

The T101 treadmill is one of Horizon’s most affordable models, coming in under $800. Plus with a “Best Buy” rating a few years back from a leading consumer magazine, it was quite popular a year or so ago.

Horizon is one of the larger treadmill manufacturers (owned by Johnson Health who also own Vision and Matrix).

They offer some decent competition in the starter treadmill market to brands like Proform and Lifespan.

So is the Horizon T101 treadmill still a good buy? Here’s what you need to know.

Horizon T101 Treadmill Review: Strengths

Sturdy Feel

While this isn’t a monster machine by any means, it’s still shockingly sturdy and stable when you walk on it. There’s no trace of wobbling or shaky parts. Johnson is quite good at the construction side of their treadmill, making many of their parts in house – so this makes sense.

Folding To Save Space

The T101 folds up with a hydraulic mechanism which takes the strain off your back. The treadmill is also pretty compact so it’s great for smaller spaces like apartments and condos.

iPod Dock + 30 Built In Workouts

While there aren’t a lot of fancy bells and whistles here, you do get an iPod dock so you can plug in your favorite tunes and play them through the console speakers. There’s also 30 built-in workouts to change up your routine and give you more of a challenge.

Grip Heart Rate Sensors

You can stay in your target fat-burning range by gripping the heart rate sensors and getting a reading on the console window.

Horizon T101 Treadmill Review: Weaknesses

Basic Design

This is a very basic treadmill – which is what you’d expect at this price point. There aren’t a lot of bells and whistles here like online tracking or wireless heart rate monitor. The belt is a bit on the smaller side and the motor is not overly strong. So you really shouldn’t be using this for long, running workouts.

Simple Console

The console is very simple – dual color with a very small window. While there is a fan, it’s not overly effective.

Bottom Line?

If you’re looking for a super-affordable, well-built treadmill, you may want to consider the Horizon T101. It’s simple and basic – but well built and sturdy. So if you really don’t care about lots of bells and whistles, this is a decent option.

However it’s also fair to note that at this price point there are better values out there. For example, you may want to consider the Proform Sport 7.0 which gives you a stronger motor, larger console, tablet holder and iFit LIVE – for around the same price.
