Schwinn 830 Treadmill

Schwinn is more known for their bikes than their treadmills. But they do make a few starter models that come in at a great price.

The Schwinn 830 is one of these models, coming in around $1000 (but you can get it around $799 here).

Highlights of the treadmill include a blue backlit console and the Schwinn Connect option – which sends your fitness results to myfitnesspal so you can keep track of your workouts over time.

There’s also a charging station/shelf above the console to charge your devices.

So is it a good buy for you? Here’s what you need to know:

Schwinn 830 Treadmill Review – Benefits:

Bright Backlit Console

The console is bright and easy to read. It’s also fairly well laid out and intuitive (easy to figure out.). There are quick speed and incline buttons for on-the-fly changes and a hand grip heart rate monitor – basically every you need.

Plus there’s a safety key included that will turn the machine off when it’s pulled out of the console. This is not something you often find on today’s treadmills and is a nice safety option.

Schwinn Connect

There is a USB port on this treadmill that lets you use your own device to track and record your workouts. Then you can upload it to SchwinnConnect or myfitnesspal.com to track your workouts. This is a great way to set new goals and see how far you’ve come.

Folding with Softdrop

The treadmill folds up to save you space. There’s also a softdrop feature that almost unfolds the treadmill on its own – which helps to save the strain on your back.

Built In Speakers

While this is fairly common nowadays, it’s still a great option to have. You can plug in your iPod or other device in the media shelf and listen to your favorite tunes out of the chambered console speakers.

4 User Profiles

The console lets you enter information for four users to get accurate workout info and keep track of your progress towards your goals – not something you usually find on a starter treadmill.

Ergonomic Heart Rate Sensors

You can track your heart rate with the hand grip sensors in front of the console. It’s nice to see that Schwinn angled them – for easier grasping. It’s a small thing but it is slightly more comfortable than grasping other sensors that run parallel to the console.

It also works with a wireless heart rate monitor (not included with the treadmill).

Schwinn 830 Treadmill Review – The Drawbacks:

There are a few key drawbacks you should know before buying. First of all, the media shelf, while a nice touch, is a bit on the short side. So it can be hard to actually fit your tablet or larger device in there – it won’t hold it.

Also, the warranty is not great on this machine – which should tell you something: 90 days parts and labor, really?

Bottom Line?

The Schwinn treadmills are actually manufactured by Nautilus, so if you like the Nautilus name and want a decent starter treadmill under $1000, this is a good option.

It’s solid, runs quiet and gives you some decent workout options like 22 built in programs and the ability to go online with your workouts.

We’d be cautious about the lack of warranty on this machine. However that seems to be Nautilus’s standard treadmill warranty – so it may not be a comment on the 830 treadmill model itself.
