Pros and Cons of the Smooth 7.35 Treadmill
The Smooth 7.35 model has been around for a few years now – and is one of Smooth’s most popular mid-range units.
Smooth has made some upgrades to the 2014 model – most notably in the console. It’s much more aesthetically pleasing, larger and easier to read.
There’s also an extra-wide welded box-steel base frame to add stability, which is great for runners.
Plus it comes with the mySmooth fitness app to add new video workouts and online fitness tracking to the mix.
So is it a good buy for you? Here’s a rundown of the pros and cons of this treadmill:

Benefits of the Smooth 7.35 Treadmill:
Reinforced Frame For Added Stability
Smooth has redesigned the frame on the new 2014 model to help distribute the weight more evenly and add even more stability (the older model was still pretty stable – but this one take it up a notch).
Along with the long 60 inch belt, this is a great feature for runners who are looking for a large, stable treadmill without spending a fortune.
mySmooth Virtual Fitness Trainer
This is such a cool new feature that Smooth has developed for it’s higher end treadmills, including the 7.35. In a nutshell, mySmooth is a free app that you download to your tablet.
From there you can watch workout videos of 50 different locations all around the world – from the Swiss Alps to the breathtaking Northern Italy Terrain.
As the terrain changes in the videos so does the your treadmill’s incline and resistance (provided you have the SmoothSync Bluetooth module). You can also get new workouts (free) from the workout library online. mySmooth will also track your fitness history so you can keep track of your goals and past achievements.
And for a more movie-like experience, you can also connect your tablet to your TV and see the video workouts on the larger screen – very cool.
This is basically Smooth’s answer to Nordic Track’s iFit technology. The best part however is that unlike iFit, you don’t have to pay a yearly subscription – the app is free (however you do have to invest in the SmoothSync Bluetooth module if you want to sync the video speed to your treadmill – which is about $100).
Side Handrail Controls
You can change the incline or speed from the side handrails – which might not seem like a big thing – but it comes in extremely handy when you’re running. You don’t have to reach up to the console for quick changes – which can throw off your stride
Extra Long Warranty
This is one of the longest warranties in the business – lifetime on frame and motor with 7 years on parts and 2 years on labor. Other manufacturers can’t touch this parts warranty at this price point. So if you’re looking for some extra peace of mind, this can definitely help add extra protection.
Free Wireless Heart Rate Monitor
The 7.35 treadmill comes with two options to monitor your heart rate – the hand grip pulse sensors or the wireless strap that’s included for free with the treadmill. Many people prefer wireless monitoring as it’s more convenient – and can often be more accurate.
Drawbacks of the Smooth 7.35
While the console on this treadmill has been made a lot larger and more attractive than the 2013 model, it still falls down a bit when compared to other treadmills in this price range like the Nordictrack 1750 – which comes with a full color console and a web browser. So Smooth is a bit behind here.
Also, while it comes with iPod dock and speakers, the speakers are a bit lacking in power (which doesn’t matter if you’re using the headphones).
If you’re looking for a highly stable runners-grade treadmill with excellent cushioning, solid construction and unbeatable warranty, you’ll probably love the Smooth 7.35 treadmill.
It falls down a bit in terms of console options – but on the other hand, the mySmooth app offers a great way to add unlimited new workouts and a virtual reality type experience to your workout.
