Boston Marathon 4.0 Treadmill Review – the Pros:
Onboard Boston Marathon Training Programs
This treadmill was made to help runners qualify for the Boston Marathon (or any other marathon). So Proform met with Boston Athletic Association coaching staff when creating this treadmill.
The training lets you choose from 16-week or 20-week programs. You then select beginner, intermediate, or advanced level training. You’ll see real footage of the Boston Marathon course as you’re training – it’s as close to the real thing as you can get.
Full Color Console with Web Browser
You get a large 10 inch full color console with touch-screen web browser built. So you can surf the net, catch up with social media or watch YouTube videos as you run.
iFit LIVE
This treadmill also comes iFit LIVE compatible. With iFit LiVE you can go online and download new workouts to your treadmill. You can also graph and track you workouts over time for some more weight loss motivation.
Plus you can also run famous world trails and watch real-life scenery pass you by in the console screen. So if you don’t want to run the Boston Marathon, you can run through the streets of Paris – or along the shores of Hawaii. You can even map out your own trail using the Googlemaps feature.
Wireless Speed Ring
The Boston Marathon 4.0 treadmill comes with a Bluetooth wireless speed ring included. You can easily change the speed from your fingers – without having to reach up to the console to do it. If you’re a serious runner you’ll love this option and it doesn’t come with any other treadmill.
Cadence Coach
The cadence coach is built into the console and gives you audible tone – like a metronome – to help you with your running pace. This is a great tool that long distance runners and trainers will appreciate.
Extra High 15 MPH Speed Limit
While most treadmills come with a top speed of 10 – 12 MPH, the Boston Marathon 4.0 treadmill gives you up to 15 MPH speed limits. This equates to running at a 4 minute mile pace, which marathon trainers will appreciate.
The treadmill also comes with a in-home efficiency booster which helps cut down on electricity usage.
20% Incline and 6% Decline
To add more training challenge, the 4.0 treadmill comes with up to 20% incline and even a 6% decline. This again helps add a more realistic feel to your training – especially when combined with the iFit LIVE or Boston Marathon training programs (the treadmill will automatically incline or decline to match the actual terrain).
Free Wireless Heart Rate Monitor
You also get a free wireless chest strap to monitor your heart rate and stay in your target zone. Many people prefer this option since it’s a lot more convenient than continually grasping the hand sensors.
Boston Marathon 4.0 Treadmill Review – the Cons:
iFit LIVE Subscription Extra
While you don’t need iFit to use this treadmill, if you want to try iFit out you’ll need an online subscription – which is about $99 a year.
Does Not Fold
The Boston Marathon 4.0 treadmill does not fold up. Since many treadmills do fold up these days some people don’t realize this before they buy.
Bottom Line?
The Boston Marathon 4.0 treadmill is the ultimate marathon trainers treadmill. You can train for the actual Boston marathon with the onboard training programs (designed in conjunction with the Boston Marathon Athletic association) and the cadence coach.
You also get extra-high speed limits, a strong motor, incline and decline and an extra long belt. If you’re looking for the best treadmill for marathon training, this is it.
