It’s an update over older starter models with the Viafit option to connect online and track your workout stats.

It also works with the Passport Media player so you can add some virtual reality fun using your TV and Media center.

Other highlights include the shock-assisted folding option along with the ultra-quiet motor.

Horizon Fitness Adventure 3 Treadmill – The Pros:

Johnson Drive System Motor

The Adventure 3 treadmill comes with a Johnson Drive system motor (Johnson owns the Horizon name). This responsive digital drive system continuously recalibrates with each footfall. It adjusts instantly to each change in speed (this is similar to what Precor motors do – and a lot of people feel it gives them a better running workout).

This also helps to keep the motor cool – which helps your motor to last longer, even with long periods of use.

Another bonus to this drive system is that it runs extremely quiet. So if you have little ones that need sleep in your home, this is a great feature to have.

ViaFit Connectivity

horizon viafitThe ViaFit connectivity on this treadmill lets you store and send your home workout information to the popular fitness apps and tools you use.

A lot of people today use some sort of fitness tracking app to set new goals and achieve more with their workouts.

Folding With Hydraulic System

This treadmill folds easily up and out of the way. The deck uses a hydraulic shock system to make it very easy to lift and lock the deck into place.

There are rollers on the bottom to make it easy to move around (although the treadmill is still pretty heavy – so it’s not something you’ll want to do every day).

Backlit Console with Racetrack Display

The console on this treadmill is backlit and pretty intuitive (i.e. you don’t need to read the manual to figure out how it works).

It gives you constant feedback on your time, distance, incline, speed, calories, heart rate and laps.

Works With Passport Media Player

The Horizon Adventure 3 works with the Passport Media Player. You hook the media player up to your TV and can run trails all over the world for a more “virtual reality” training experience.

Note however that the media player is not included with this treadmill – you have to purchase it separately here.

Horizon Adventure 3 Review – Any Cons?

Media Player Extra

passport media playerThe Media Player is not included with this treadmill – you have to buy it here for about $199.

While this is Horizon’s answer to Nordictrack’s iFit Coach, it currently doesn’t give you as many trail options to run – and it’s more expensive up front

Shorter Belt

The belt is only 55 inches long on this treadmill. Taller users might feel like they’re bumping up against the edge of the treadmill.

12% Incline

You get up to 12% incline on this treadmill – which is fine. However if you plan on using your treadmill a lot for HIIT training you might want something with a little higher incline like up to 15%. Still, for the price point, this is pretty standard.

Bottom Line?

If you’re looking for a starter treadmill for a great price – and you really like the Horizon name, you’ll probably like the Adventure 3 treadmill.

While it’s a bit basic – and the console is a bit dated, the construction is solid and the motor runs very quiet.

Plus you can add some entertainment or tracking options with Viafit and Passport if you want – which can add some fun to your workouts.

Compare to: Nordictrack T6.5 Treadmill or Proform 600i Treadmill
