Nordictrack C1630 Review:

Nordictrack C1630 Pro Treadmill

The Nordictrack C1630 Pro treadmill is a higher end economy treadmill for Nordic track – not quite mid-range but a little tougher than a starter model.

It gives you some pretty decent basics plus a few higher end options like decline thrown in – but not all the bells and whistles that Nordictrack puts on their mid-range and luxury models.

(This  may be fine for you as it’s also more affordable than these treadmills.)

So is it worth your money? And how does it compare to other models? Here’s a rundown of what you should know:

The Basics:

Price: $1299 + Free Shipping

Motor: 3.25 HP

Incline: 15% and 3% Decline

Belt: 20 x 60″

Footprint: 81.8″ L X 35″ W

Built-In Workouts: 34

Warranty: Lifetime Frame, Motor & Deck Warranty, 5-Year Parts & Electronics Warranty, 2-Year Labor Warranty

Benefits of the 2014 Nordictrack C1630 Treadmill:

Dual Color Console with iFit LIVE Option

nordictrack-c1630-console-closeupThe console window is a bit larger on this model than other starter treadmills. It also comes iFit compatible.

This means you can connect your treadmill to the Internet and download new workouts (including some from Jillian Michaels where she coaches you through your workout) and map out new trails to run with Googlemaps.

You can also use iFit to track your workout stats, set new goals and race against friends online – so it’s a pretty good motivational tool.

Upgraded Cushioning For Better Joint Protection

The C1630 comes with Durastride cushioning which is again a bit of an upgrade on lower end models. It has full-deck cushioning with spring-encased dampeners at eight points across the frame that absorb the shock of your foot coming down on the belt.

It actually reduces impact by 30% (as compared to road running) so this is a great option if you plan on doing some running. It also reduces the risk of strains or injury, which can happen often on poorly cushioned treadmills.

Nordictrack C1630 Incline/Decline

3% Decline

You can get a better crosstraining workout with the 3% decline on the 1630 treadmill. This also works with the iFit LIVE and Googlemaps to simulate more realistic-feeling trails.

Free Wireless Heart Rate Monitor

heart rate monitorA lot of people prefer the wireless heart rate monitor because it’s more accurate (and easier to use since you don’t have to keep grasping the hand sensors).

The Nordictrack C1630 treadmill comes with a free wireless heart rate monitor for you.

iPod Dock with Speakers

There’s a port on the console where you can plug in you iPod or other compatible mp3 device and listen to your favorite tunes through the built-in speakers – which adds some variety to your workout.

Nordictrack C1630 Review – The Drawbacks

While these aren’t really drawbacks, you should be aware that if you want to use iFit, you’ll have to purchase the iFit online membership (which is about $99 a year). Also, you don’t get as much from the iFit because the console is dual color (not full color). So the running on Google trails features is not as effective as when you see it on a full color console.

Also, for some reason the cupholder on this treadmill is in a really weird spot – pushed back and under the console which makes it a bit of a job to reach your water bottle while running.

Bottom Line?

The C1630 does have some features that other Nordictrack starter models do not have like a larger console and upgraded cushioning. However, as the price stands right now ($1299), you may want to upgrade to the 1750 Commercial treadmill.

For just $200 more, you get a full color console with a built-in web browser so you can surf the net as you walk or run. You also get a wider belt for more room to run, more workout programs, stronger motor and an extra cooling fan.

That doesn’t mean the 1630 treadmill is poor value – it’s actually pretty good. But it would be better value overall if they dropped the price about $150 or so.
