Nordictrack C990 Treadmill Review

It adds a few upgrades like a sleeker console, wider belt and an added tablet holder to add some fun to your workout.
It also gives you some great basics – like a super-strong 3.0 HP motor, 15% incline and adjustable cushioning.

Pros of the Nordictrack C 990 Treadmill:
#1 Beefy Basics
The C990 gives you some excellent “basics” you don’t usually get in a treadmill for under $1000.
For example you get a super-powered 3.0 HP motor that will easily power you through longer or more intense workouts. You also get an extra long 60 inch belt – giving runners or taller users that extra belt space.
The 2.5 inch rear rollers are also generous and help to reduce wear and tear on the drive system (which helps your treadmill to last longer). And if you want to build in some calorie-blasting intervals, you can get up to 15% incline.
#2 Added Tablet Holder
This is new for 2015. You get a sturdy bracket above the console to hold your tablet at around eye level. So you can watch your favorites movies or shows or just surf the net with your tablet as you walk.
Plus, it integrates with iFit LIVE to show you the road scenes in full color (important since the console on this treadmill is only dual color).
#3 Adjustable Cushioning
This is another feature you don’t usually find on other treadmills under $1000.
You can customize the deck feel to your personal preference.
For a softer, more cushioned feel, you can turn the cushioning up. Or turn it down for a more “road-like” firmer-surface feel.
#4 iFit Compatible
With iFit you’ll never be bored. You can download new workouts from Jillian Michaels to your treadmill and listen while she directs and coaches you through the built-in speakers
You can also choose to run famous trails all over the world like Paris or Hawaii. Or map out new trails yourself using Googlemaps and watch landmarks pass you by in the console screen.
Want some inspiration? Just online to track and map out your workout history to see how far you’ve come!
#5 Backlit Console
While not multi-color like some of the higher end models, the console on this treadmill is bright, backlit and easy to read. There’s even a message scrolling area that guides you on how to get started.
The console also houses a built-in fan to keep you cool, an iPod dock for extra entertainment and 32 built-in workouts (included, not part of iFit).
Cons of the Nordictrack C990 Treadmill:
#1 iFit LIVE Subscription Required
While the C990 treadmill works fine without iFit LIVE, if you want to try out all the benefits of iFit then you’ll need a subscription (around $99 a year).
#2 Dual Color Console
While the console is a fair size, it is still dual color. So you do lose a bit in terms of graphics, especially when it comes to the iFit Googlemaps workouts. Some people prefer to have multi-color consoles available with the higher end Nordictrack models.
Bottom Line?
Nordictrack consistently brings out some of the best under-$1000 treadmills on the market and the C990 treadmill is no exception. It gives you a lot of strong basics like a super-strong 3.0 HP motor, high 15% incline, large rollers and extra long, extra wide deck.
You also get lots of little luxury extras that add comfort to your workout like the adjustable cushioning, console fan that matches your workout speed, iPod dock and iFit LIVE options.
Overall: a great starter treadmill with some luxury touches thrown in.
