Nordictrack X7i Treadmill

The Nordictrack X7i is currently Nordictrack’s most affordable incline trainer, which makes it pretty popular.

It still gives you the full 0 – 40% incline which means you can burn up to 5 times the calories as walking on a flat treadmill. And it now also carries a 0 – 3% decline to add in more crosstraining to your workout.

With iFit LIVE you can add new workouts from Jillian Michaels or track your workout progress online.

Is the X7i a good buy for you? How does it compare to other incline trainers? Here’s what you need to know:

Nordictrack X7i Review – The Pros:

Burn 5 X The Calories With 40% Incline

nordictrack X7 incline trainer sideviewAccording to Nordictrack testing, you can burn up to 5 times the calories walking on the X7 vs. walking on a regular treadmill.

That means you see and feel weight loss very quickly. with this machine.

Plus you can still use it as a regular treadmill if you don’t want to walk on the incline. So you’re really getting the best of both worlds.

3% Decline

You get even more crosstraining ability with the 0 – 3% decline option. While it’s not as high as other models (the X9 and X11 give you 6% decline), it’s still a great feature you don’t usually get with other treadmills at this price point.

Extra Wide Belt

The older X7 model had a shorter belt. But Nordictrack has both widened and extended the belt (22 x 60 inches long) on the new model – giving you a lot more room to walk or run.

iFit LIVE Compatible

iFit for treadmillsThe X7i comes iFit LIVE compatible. iFit connects your treadmill to the Internet and from there you can do all sorts of fun things. You can download new workouts from Jillian Michaels where she coaches you through your workout.

You can map out new trails to run using Googlemaps. Plus, the treadmill interacts with Googlemaps and incline or decline to match the terrain  – very virtual reality.

You can also have the treadmill track your workouts and plot out your progress online – which is a great way to motivate yourself to reach new goals. If you’re looking for a treadmill that can “grow with you”, iFit LIVE gives you the option to do this.

Free Wireless Heart Rate Monitor

heart-rate-monitorYou can stay in your target fat-burning range by gripping the heart rate sensors and getting a reading on the console window.

Or you can use the free wireless monitor that’s included with this model.

Many people prefer wireless monitoring as it’s more accurate (and you don’t have to constantly grip the hand sensors).

Reflex Cushioning

This is one of Nordictrack’s best cushioning systems – the deck is made from the same material they use to make professional snowboards so it flexes and can take more of a beating – while returning energy to your stride. This is a great feature especially for runners who need extra cushioning protection.

Large, Bright Console with iPod Dock

nordictrack X7i review consoleThe window on the X7 – while only dual color – is bright and backlit.

Plus it’s one of Nordictrack’s largest console windows, which makes your stats easier to read.

And there’s also an iPod docking station you can use to play your favorite tunes through the console speakers.

Nordictrack X7i Review – The Cons:

Dual Color Console

Unlike the X9 or X11 which have full color consoles, the X7 only carries a dual color console. So you do lose a bit in terms of picture quality – especially when it comes to the iFit programs and Googlemaps.

Nordictrack X11 web browser

No Web Browser

The X9 or X11 both come with web browsers that are not included on the X7i.

3% Decline

Again, you don’t get the 6% decline that you get with other the X9 or X11. Still that doesn’t bother most people.

Bottom Line?

If you’re looking for a basic incline trainer that’s affordable and gets the job done, the X7i is a great option.

It doesn’t have the fancy bells and whistles that the higher end model have – but it’s also $400 cheaper. And it still has all of the essentials you need like the 40% incline, decline, large belt, excellent cushioning and fantastic warranty coverage.
