Precor 9.23 Treadmill Review:

precor 9.23 treadmill Wondering about the Precor 9.23 treadmill? Is it right for you? Here’s a few things you should know:

Firs of all, Precor is known for making high quality treadmills. You can find their commercial line in a lot of health clubs and gyms.

They also had a home line of treadmills that started around $4000 and were very similar to the commercial line (as they should be for that price range).

However a few years ago, Precor bit the bullet and started a more “affordable” line of treadmills – starting with the Precor 9.23 – the most affordable model.

It runs around $1799 + Shipping.

To get a Precor for under $2000 is unreal – so understandly this was a very popular treadmill.

But is it still a good buy? Here’s a review of the pros and cons of this treadmill:

Pros of the Precor 9.23 Treadmill:

Tough, Strong Construction

Although you’re not going to get the construction quality of a $4000 gym treadmill, the 9.23 is built pretty well with that same Precor quality people love. You get a strong motor with a 1 inch deck and multi-ply belt. No cheap, plastic parts here.

Ground Effects Cushioning

The way Precor does their cushioning is interesting – and many of the other brands are starting to do something similar – although Ground Effects is Precor-patented. The way it works is that shock absorbers at the front of the deck give you extra cushioning (as that is where your foot hits the belt so you need some extra protection). Then near the back a pivot point gives you a more solid surface to help give you some extra push.

6 Built-In Workouts

You get 6 built-in workouts with this treadmill to add some extra challenge. Workouts include  Fun Run, Hill Climb, Interval, Manual, Walk and Weight Loss. While other brands give you a lot more in terms of programs, it might be all that some people really need.

Stride Support

This is another unique-to-Precor feature that helps simulate the feel of an outdoor run. The belt senses the changes in your stride velocity and adjusts the belt speed up to 57 times a second at 12 mph. You may not actually feel it at the time – but a lot of people do notice over time that their run feels more “natural”.

Cons of the Precor 9.23 Treadmill

Short arms

Basically there are no side arms on this treadmill – which can make you feel a little unsafe. If you’re worried about having something to grab onto, should you trip or stumble, this may not be the best treadmill for you.

Simple Console

The console on this treadmill is extremely pared-down. There’s no one-touch incline/speed buttons, fan, speakers, etc. Basically there’s the feedback window and the scrolling speed/incline buttons- that’s it.

No Frills

While you do get the built-in workouts and a heart rate monitor, that’s about it in terms of frills. There’s no iPod dock, web browser, internet connection, fans, one-touch speed/incline buttons, or any of that stuff. And frankly for this price point, almost every other brand gives you some of these things.

Bottom Line?

The Precor 9.23 treadmill is a simple, no-frills treadmill that really shines in the construction quality arena. If you don’t want frills – but do want a well made treadmill suitable for running, you should be very happy with it.  You’re paying for the name here – but really the name is such a good one that many people don’t mind.
