Is the Proform 995C Treadmill Worth Your Money?

Proform 995C Treadmill

One of the more popular treadmills from Proform is the 995C model, probably because it earned several “Best Buy” awards a few years ago.

Coming in under $1000 (plus free shipping), it’s sitting at a very attractive price point.

And it does give you some great features to make workouts more enjoyable like an iPod dock with speakers, iFit LIVE to download new workouts and 30 built-in workout apps.

So is it right for you? Here’s an overview of the pros and cons to help you decide:

Pros of the Proform995C:

Sturdy and Solidly Built

The 995 feels extremely sturdy when you run on it. It’s a very heavy machine – which probably contributes to the stability here. That, combined with the large console and machine bulk just makes you feel extra-safe when running on it.

Decent Cushioning

The cushioning system on this treadmill is also pretty decent. It reduces the impact on your joints by 28% (compared to road running). So this is handy for runners or those prone to shin splints.

If you haven’t bought a treadmill in a few years, you’ll be shocked at how much better – and more comfortable – these systems have gotten.

iFit LIVE Compatible

The Proform 995 C comes iFit LIVE compatible. This connects your treadmill to the Internet and from there you can do all sorts of wonderful things like track your fitness progress over time, set new goals, race against your Facebook friends and even download new workouts from Jillian Michaels.

Basically you’ll never get bored with iFit LIVE. You don’t have to use iFit – but it’s there if you want it.

30 Built-in Workouts

This is a lot of workouts – enough to keep you challenged. The workouts are designed by a certified personal trainer and the treadmill will incline with the different workouts. So even if you don’t want to try the iFit for a while, you’ll still have enough to keep you busy.

Sleek, Attractive Console

The console on this machine is surprisingly attractive. It’s sleek and fairly advanced, considering the price point. It’s well laid out and easy to understand what each button does (without having to read a manual to figure it out).

The console window is not the largest one in Proform’s lineup at 7″ wide – but at this price point it’s pretty standard. It shows your speed, time, distance and calories burned. There’s also a built-in racetrack feature, which many people like.

So those are the pros – what about the cons?

Cons of the Proform 995C Treadmill:

iFit Subscription Extra

Although the treadmill comes with iFit LIVE compatible, you do have to buy the iFit module (around $99) to hook it up. Plus the iFit LIVE online subscription is extra as well (around $100 a year).

Dual-Color Display

The console display is only dual color – not multi color, which some people prefer. Again though, at this price point though, it’s pretty standard.

Bottom Line?

If you’re looking for a solid buy for under $1000, the Proform995C is a great little (ok, not so little) value. It gives you a lot for the money – especially in terms of the stability and “heaviness” of this unit – it just feels substantial, more substantial than it should for this price point.

Plus you get a lot for entertainment options including lots of workout programs, iPod dock with speakers, console fan and a very sleek-looking, easy-to-use console. While it’s not a commercial grade treadmill, the 995C is good value at this price point.

Where To Buy and Save:

Because there are a few different 995 treadmill models out there, if you want the 995C you have to make sure you’re actually getting the 995C (not the 995 SEL or 995i) . You can get the 995 C Treadmill direct from the manufacturer here and get Free Shipping as well which will save you about $150+.
