Schwinn 870 Treadmill Review – The Pros:
Bright, Backlit Console
The console is bright and easy to read. It’s larger than the Schwinn 830 with an extra console window, making it easier to see your workout stats.
The console has quick speed and incline buttons for on-the-fly changes, 26 built-in workouts, an iPod dock with speakers and a hand grip heart rate monitor – basically every you need.
Plus there’s a safety key included that will turn the machine off when it’s pulled out of the console. This is not something you often find on today’s treadmills and is a nice safety option.
Bluetooth Connectivity
With this feature you can easily track and sync your workouts in the Schwinn fitness app to see how far you’ve come or set new fitness goals.
Run the World with RunSocial
Schwinn has partnered with the free mixed reality app, RunSocial. You can get the app and sync it to your treadmill, running different world trails and watching the scenery pass you by on your tablet or phone.
RunSocial is a free app and has 19 real world maps in HD, different trails from 5 K to Marathon and the ability to run solo or join events and run with friends.
This is a pretty cool (and free) option to add some challenge and fun to your workouts.
Folding with Softdrop
The treadmill folds up to save you space. There’s also a softdrop feature that almost unfolds the treadmill on its own – which helps to save the strain on your back.
Media Shelf with Charging Port
There’s a shelf above the console area where you can store your tablet or phone. So you can easily watch your movies or TV shows on your tablet as you walk on the treadmill.
There’s also a usb charging port. So you’ll never have to worry about running out of batter life on the treadmill.
Ergonomic Heart Rate Sensors
You can track your heart rate with the hand grip sensors in front of the console. It’s nice to see that Schwinn angled them – for easier grasping. It’s a small thing but it is slightly more comfortable than grasping other sensors that run parallel to the console.
It also works with a wireless heart rate monitor (not included with the treadmill).
Schwinn 870 Review – The Cons:
While the console is bright and easy to read, compared to other brands at this price point, it’s a bit basic. It’s also a bit cluttered and not as intuitive as some other brand consoles.
Also, Schwinn hasn’t really updated this treadmill in years and it’s starting to look a bit dated when you compare it with newer, similarly priced treadmills.
