Smooth 9.65 TV Treadmill Review – The Pros:
TV treadmills are hard to find these days – especially if you don’t want to spend $4000 on a commercial, health club TV treadmill. So it’s nice to find that Smoot has a version coming in at under $2500.
The 9.65 is actually almost the exact same treadmill as Smooth’s 9.65 Light Commercial treadmill – but with the added LCD TV.
The large 10.5 inch LCD TV comes with high fidelity built-in speakers. It comes cable ready and you can also hook up your DVD player to it if you want to watch movies.
If you’re like most people, you’ll find that watching your favorite shows while walking or running helps the time pass much faster. You may even end up working out for longer and burning more calories without even noticing it.
But it’s not just about the TV with this treadmill – there are some other incredible little goodies too:
- Super Powered 4.0 HP motor – This easily powers the belt and you can run, even at high inclines, without feeling like you’re straining the motor.
- Extra Long 64″ Belt – This is the longest belt in the industry and really gives you a lot of room to stretch out and run at high speeds without reaching the edge of the belt.
- 8-Point Impression Cushioning System – This is similar to what you often find in health-club brands in that it gives you extra cushioning where your foot hits the belt and a firmer surface where you push off. This can reduce drag and muscle fatigue – and it just feels much more natural (and easier on the joints) than running on a standard treadmill. This is something you’ll notice especially after several long workouts.
- Commercial Grade Construction – The Smooth 9.65TV treadmill is made with large 3″ rollers which help the reduce static and prolong motor life. You also get a sturdy commercial running frame and very heavy unit weight that gives you a solid, stable treadmill feel.

The console display itself is in front of the TV and shows your time, distance, heart rate, calories burned, speed and incline levels.
You get 55 built-in workouts for an extra challenge and there’s also a port for your iPod if you want to listen to mustic instead of watching TV.
Customer Review:
“Last year I purchased the 9.65 TV Model and it has performed flawlessly. You can hook up your dvd player to the console and watch a dvd while you are exercizing and I usually do this to pass the time quicker.
On rainy or cold days now there is no excuse for not running! The treadmill seems very durable and with the warranty I never have to worry about it. It’s very easy to operate and the belt is quite easy on the body, I feel a lot less ‘wear and tear’ than pounding the pavement outside. Overall I am very satisfied with this treadmill.” – Dave Joliet, IL
Another thing you’ll notice about this treadmill is how quiet it runs. Smooth tends to make very quiet-running equipment and the 9.65 is no exception. You can easily hear the TV without having to turn up the volume too high.
The Cons:
Because the 9.65 is a bit older (it’s so popular Smooth has kept it around), it doesn’t have the newer mySmooth virtual fitness app on it – so if you would prefer that instead of the TV, you may want to go with a similar model like the 9.35 treadmill.
Another thing you need to know is that this treadmill does NOT fold up. While this helps to make it much more stable than other treadmills, for some people it may be a drawback.
Bottom Line?
If you’re looking specifically for a commercial TV treadmill without a commercial price tag, then the 9.65 is a great option to consider. It’s built like a tank and won’t budge – even if you’re a 250+ pound man running at high speeds.
Everything is top of the line on this treadmill, especially the construction with the larger rollers, monster motor and commercial frame.
While it doesn’t have the popular mySmooth fitness app, if you just want to watch your favorite shows on the TV while running, you’ll probably be quite happy with it.
